    A new UK record label from Norsicaa focusing on high fidelity sound, history and music communities from across the globe, with an emphasis on the Asia-Pacific

    ‘Sama-sama’ : a phrase heard every day across Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

    In Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia sama-sama means ‘you’re welcome’ or ‘same same’ but with a deep sense of shared humanity and exchanging good energy. In Tagalog, it means ‘all together’ or ‘collective’.

    It’s widely understood that ‘sama’ comes from old proto-Malayo-Polynesian which spread far across South-East Asian waters and even the Pacific, with meanings of ‘fellow’, ‘together’ and ‘alike’.

    This record label sets out to celebrate our interconnectedness but also our unique differences.

Sama Sama Records UK was founded by the Malaysian-Australian DJ Norsicaa, who ran independent label Soundway Records for 8 years. She began the process of setting up her own imprint and left Soundway following the success of her compilation ‘Ayo Ke Disco’, earning recognition from industry peers – including ‘Best Compilation of 2024’ from Gilles Peterson.
